No matter who you are, no matter your age, you have the ability to meditate. It is a tool to use to relax, to learn, to grow, and to be free. Through meditation you will be able to answer the question that most people want to know. Why am I here? What is my purpose? What is this life? So often we will look for answers any place we can forgetting to look inside first. It’s easy to forget that we are not our bodies but the spark inside of it. The spark that is our soul. For the soul it can never die. It is ever present. It is connected to all of your experiences, all of your knowledge, and all that you will be. Through meditation you can reach a point of knowing that will transcend the common conception of human existence. You will connect to yourself and to all of the aspects that create you as a greater whole. There is wealth of knowledge just waiting for you to find.
The hardest part for almost anyone in meditation is learning to quiet down the outside world as well as the brains inner dialogue or garble.
At first you may find it easy to sit still and be quiet, but at the same time your brain will continue to race. It may seem like an eternity of inner dialogue, until you open your eyes and see that only minute has gone by on the clock. This can be very frustrating and aggravating when you finally decide you want to try meditation.
It is very normal. It is just something that you have to allow to happen. Over time it gets easier to connect and to be silent as well as still. There are several techniques that you can try and use to help you as you practice.
The very first thing you will want to do is choose a place in your home that will be your meditation spot, and always use this spot. It doesn’t have to be anything special, it just needs to be a quiet space where you can be alone.
Next choose music that will be relaxing, there are many types- chakra balancing music, Native American music, nature sounds, the Tibetan cups, aboriginal didgeridoo, etc. Choose what resonates the most with you.
Another thing that really helps is lighting a candle. This give you something to concentrate on while you allow your mind to calm and to relax.
To quiet the mind you can try creating mantra for yourself. A mantra would be something you would repeat over and over to focus. I use several, I try to make them positive with clear intention such as -”I am All that is Love and I am all that is Light" or” I am balanced, I am whole and I connect to the More of who I am".
Another thing you can try to quiet the mind is to hum while you meditate. Let yourself just start humming, state your mantra and continue humming. Try doing this a couple times in a row.
Pick a place in your meditation spot that will allow you to sit straight up. Keeping your back nice and straight, legs crossed with your hands resting on top of your knees palms face up. It may be helpful to sit against a wall so that the body may stay in this position for an extended period of time.
Now you are ready to start. Set your intention. Your intention is what you hope to achieve through meditating. Do this verbally by stating your goal. It can be anything. Something as simple as “today I am going to allow myself to be quiet " or "My intention is to be silent so that I may hear". Empaths- you may want to set an intention of clearing out what you have absorbed from others.
Then light your candle, turn on your music and get into position.
Begin by taking deep breaths and let yourself do this for a few minutes. This will help you find you to relax as the brain garbles and tries to remind you of everything you need to do today.
Say your mantra.
After a few minutes of deep breathing begin to focus on the flame of the candle that you have lit. Think to yourself " with each breath I take the more I connect, the more I balance, the more I am." Continue this and continue focusing on the gentle flame of your candle.
After five to ten minutes your brain should then be quiet enough for you to really get into a good meditative state.
When you feel you are there (and however long it takes is how long it takes) imagine a beam of White light. This white light is above you. Allow this light to shine on your head. Feel it as it soothes the top of your head and pushes down behind your eyes and out through your ears. Allow the light to fill your entire head and then push it down through your neck and into you shoulders. The light streams down your arms, to your finger tips and back into shoulders. The light begins to fill your chest cavity, swirling down your back, along your torso and into your stomach. Your body is full of light now as it extends into your legs and down through your feet. As the light exits through your feet push out any energy you have absorbed through your surroundings or other people. You can do this by simply saying “I push out through my feet what I have absorbed.”
This is a way of clearing out for empaths, and a way for centering yourself whether you are empath or not. ....
Hold this light inside of yourself as you connect deeper into the more of who you are. Let this light free you of your worries, let this light fill you and make you whole.
In your mind’s eye you are now filled with light. You are in eb and flow of who you are. At this point if there is anything you would like to know just ask. The answer will come to you.
When you feel the time is right, open your eyes back up. And notice how much lighter you feel. It may be helpful to keep a log of your experiences, it is a great way tracking progress. It is also helpful to be ready to write/type any type of information that comes to you while you are in a meditative state. It will be in the forefront of your mind, it may not always make sense right away but eventually it all fits together like a big puzzle.
